Specification & Compliance
Every speaker cut-out in a fire-rated ceiling breaches the protection that ceiling is there to provide. Under Approved Document B of the UK Building Regulations, the responsibility for maintaining that protection sits with the installer. The Firetopper Pro II is the engineered solution: a triple-layer intumescent hood that fits over the speaker, sealing the ceiling penetration without compromising the speaker's performance.
Tested to BS EN 1363-1:2020
The Firetopper Pro II has been tested by Warringtonfire (Report 503071/LR) to the heating and pressure conditions of BS EN 1363-1:2020, the current British and European standard for fire resistance testing of building elements. Performance was demonstrated in a representative timber joist floor construction with a two-layer Gyproc FireLine plasterboard ceiling — a typical UK domestic build-up — over the full 90-minute fire test duration.
Acoustic and thermal performance
A central layer of fire-retardant acoustic foam between two intumescent skins delivers sound reduction into the room above, supporting compliance with Approved Document E on resistance to the passage of sound. The same construction acts as a thermal barrier, reducing heat loss into the cavity and helping retain the insulation performance required under Approved Document L.
